Brothers and Sisters,

UAW Local 435 Benefits Rep. Shawn Patterson  was scheduled to be laid off on December 31, 2009 due to the plant closing. With Shawn being laid off we would have been in a very tough situation providing Benefits representation to our many members and retiree's.

President Myers and I are pleased to inform you that UAW Local 435 Benefits Rep. Shawn Patterson will continue to provide services to the UAW Local 435 membership through December 31, 2010

Shawn will continue to provide benefit related services through December 31, 2010, from the UAW Local 435 Union Hall - 302-995-6001

President Myers and I would like to openly thank the UAW International Union, as well as our Region 8 Director, Gary Casteel, for helping us negotiate this one year extension of our Benefits Rep with GM.

In closing, President Myers and I would like to wish the entire membership of UAW Local 435 and their families a safe and Happy Thanksgiving holiday.....

Brothers and Sisters,

Since the anouncement made today by FISKER automotive (www.fiskerautomotive.com) we have been swamped with questions about the hiring process as well as other pertinent questions.

Please keep in mind that this facility is no longer a GM facility. We are now FISKER Automovite Manufacturing Facility. There are countless details that need to be worked out. It would be impossible to have them all worked out over night.

This is the FIRST time, ever, that a closed facility will be re opened to once again manufacture automobiles. This is the frst time the UAW has partnered with an automaker outside the Big 3.

Our UAW International President Ron Gettelfinger summed it up best. Ron stated so many facilities have been closed in recent times it was totally remarkable to be coming to a plant opening.......

We have been, and will continue working as hard as we can to get the details ironed out on numerous issues, including the hiring process, surrounding the purchase of our former plant. These issues will take time to resolve. We ask that everyone please understand we are working as hard as we can, with the International Union to iron out the details of this historic endeavor.

I would like to openly thank President Gettelfinger, Region 8 Director Gary Casteel, Governor Markell, Senator Carper, Senator Kaufman, Plant Manager Bob Dolan, Fisker Automotive COO Barney Kohler, Fisker Automitve CEO Henrick Fisker, Department of Economic Development Alan Levin, Senator Carpers assistant Larry Wyndlay, Local 435 President Dave Myers and Vice President Biden for all of their help and support in making this a reality.

I would like to thank the members of UAW Local 435 for their support during this process. I ask the members to take a minute to send a note of thanks to these gentlemen that made this all possible.

In Solidarity,

Joe Riccio
Chairman
