Fisker now owns Boxwood Road plant

California-based Fisker, which paid $20 million for the 3.2 million-square-foot plant, plans to build two lines of luxury plug-in hybrid cars there. Fisker committed to buy the plant last October, and plans to start renovations soon with the help of grant and loan money from the state and federal governments.
“I’m glad we’re in Delaware,” Fisker chief operating officer Bernhard Koehler said today in an interview with The News Journal.
Full-scale production hiring won’t begin until 2012, Fisker Chief Operating Officer Bernhard Koehler said.
By the summer of 2012, Fisker plans to ramp up production of its yet-to-be unveiled Project Nina sedan, which has a target price of $47,000. Koehler said Fisker won’t unveil the Nina until early 2012.
Fisker plans to roll 100,000 cars out of the plant in 2013, and another 125,000 in 2014.
By 2016, Boxwood Road is scheduled to also be the production home of the $88,000 Karma sports sedan. Koehler said Monday that Fisker has taken more than 2,000 orders for Karmas, which begins production from a contract plant in Finland in February.
